Fishing
Long known for producing trophy trout, mackinaw and kokanee salmon, Lake Pend Oreille is ideal for anglers. A species of giant rainbow trout called kamloops is especially prominent, but many others abound, including bass, pike and walleye. Catches exceeding 20 pounds are not unusual, including the “certified weight” record bull trout of 32 pounds caught in 1949.
Boating
In addition to your private dock or boat slip, surrounding communities offer watercraft rentals that get you out on the water in something other than your own vessel. Everything from jet skis and ski boats to pontoon boats, sailboats and kayaks can be had for venturing out and playing on Idaho’s largest lake.
Sightseeing
The lake abounds in parks, beaches and trails that afford scenic opportunities for viewing North Idaho in all its glory. In addition to the sweeping beauty of the lake and its shorelines, several mountain ranges epitomize the grandeur of nature in the Great Northwest. Forests of ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, poplar and red cedar are home to a rich variety of wildlife, and the lake hosts several species of migratory waterfowl.
